ACETYLENE SHORTAGE On March 23, 2011 there was an explosion at a chemical processing plant in Louisville, Kentucky. The plant processed calcium carbide which is used in the production of acetylene gas. This has caused many people to look into alternative fuels to run there torches. Any cutting torch that runs acetylene can be run on propane or other LP gases, in most cases. If you are cutting 1 inch or less all you need to do is replace the cutting tip, with a tip designed for the new gas you want to run. If you are cutting over 1 inch call us and we can advise you on how to properly make the switch. The regulator you were using for acetylene can also be used for LP gases as long as you do not need more than 15psi delivery pressure. A CGA-300 to CGA-510 adaptor will be needed if your acetylene cylinders have a CGA-300 valve. Call us and we can give you all the details, and get you cutting again. |
